Scale, Pennsylvania Railroad Passenger Train Set, Produced by the Master Craftsmen of Gebr. Fleischmann of Nurnberg, Germany, Circa 1950’s or so. This set came equipped with NMRA couplers from the factory and must be one of the very first sets produced this way. The loco & cars have a “patina” to them, which some collectors might wish to clean up, while others might appreciate the historical patina. The locomotive and tender are heavy, diecast metal. It runs forward & reverse with the headlight working, but is in great need of cleaning & lubrication, as it has been sitting unused for over 50 years now. The locomotive frame casting is different than others I have seen. I believe this to be a very early set. The passenger cars are metal with heavy, plastic roofs. Some of the plastic window inserts have come loose inside the cars. The track is unusual to me and must be very early, as it is not marked “Fleischmann” and I have never seen track quite like it before. In addition, the curved & straight sections have plastic ties, while the short feeder and fitter sections appear to have fiber ties. Very odd. I have not really inspected the track and make no guarantees about it. There are 12 curves, 4 straights, one feeder and one fitter section. The original set box is showing wear and has some tape repairs at the corners of the lid, please see photos. Other than this description, I am selling this set based ENTIRELY on the photos, so please look them over carefully. Anyway, these old eyes don’t see like they used to, so I ask that you take the time to “ZOOM IN” and look the photos over very closely, to determine for yourself just what we have here.
